LCLC Random Dinners Initiative Gains Momentum (Photo)
May 16, 2012

LCLC initiative 'Random Dinners' gains momentum with the second dinner taking place on 16 May 2012. The initiative is designed to facilitate team bonding and networking among the members of the Club and it works by randomly selecting groups of six to eight members for informal dinners every month.

At LCLC Pub Social of April 2012, the following names were drawn: H. E. Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in the United Kingdom Dr. Oskaras Jusys, Ugnė Stackevičiūtė of St. George (Berkeley Group), Andrius Jankūnas and Marius Vaičiulis of Goldman Sachs, Linas Čiapas of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Saulė Voluckytė of PKB International Ltd, Vygantas Nomeika of Barclays and Laurynas Zabulis of Moelis & Company.

Eight of us decided to have a dinner together at Marco Pierre White (one of the youngest chefs to be awarded three Michelin stars) Wheeler’s of St. James’s restaurant. St. James’s area in London is traditionally known as the headquarters of the most eligible bachelors. The most famous international icon is James Bond. The restaurant is just in front of the cigar shop where James Bond buys his Havana cigars in the novel by Ian Fleming. It is such a coincidence that the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania moved to Bessborough Gardens, the area adjacent to Her Majesty’s intelligence services MI5 and MI6. It is intriguing that the editor of The Economist Edward Lucas will be presenting his newly published book on international spy practices at the Embassy just a week later.

The dinner was a success as all eight of us showed up and had a pleasant evening in the restaurant adorned with the pictures of Agent 007 girlfriends. James Bond theme was easily picked up. Everyone was elegant and classy.

The round table dinner conversation was about the upcoming Lithuania’s Presidency of the European Union and preparations and special events planned in that regard. The putting together of the Lithuanian Olympic team for London 2012 Olympic games was another topic. The most exciting piece of news was the presentation of the film “The Other Dream Team” with legendary basketball stars Arvydas Sabonis and Šarūnas Marčiulionis in attendance at the Embassy later in the year. H. E. Ambassador was able to share some information how Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) was set up with the generous support of NBA and the negotiations taking place at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in New York.
