LCLC supports Lithuanian Partisans visit to London
May 10, 2009
The club has made a small contribution towards the costs of organising a public meeting with 3 prominent Lithuanian partisans on 10 May 2009 in London. Lithuanian partisans resisted Soviet rule during the Soviet invasion and occupation of Lithuania during and after the World War II, with approximately 30,000 killed and many imprisoned for extended periods of time afterwards - for example, one of the attending partisans, Jonas Kadzionis, spent 25 years in a Soviet prison. Event organiser Aldas Kazlauskas expressed appreciation for the help of LCLC in organising this event, which, hopefully, has made all guests more aware and appreciative of the immense personal sacrifices made by the partisans for the eventual independence of Lithuania.
