It wasn’t Wimbledon and it wasn't The Centre court, but passion, dedication and determination to win were just as strong and compelling on the beautiful courts of Putney Lawn Tennis Club during the traditional LCLC Tennis Tournament for Ambassador’s Cup 2012.
Overall 16 players - LCLC members, partners and 5 guests from Lithuania - competed for the top 3 places in the tournament. For the first time ever, the top prize was handed to a woman and tournament guest, Skaistė Dervinė, who battled her way through the final with Mindaugas Volungevičius and sealed the victory with 6:3 3:6 and tie-break (10:7). Third place winner became Martynas Narkauskas, also a guest from Lithuania, who played our LCLC member and tennis tournament veteran, Danas Vengraitis. The match resulted: 6:3 3:6 and tie-break (10:5). “These were truly remarkable matches between the top contestants, a spectacle for everyone’s eyes. However, we need to strive to return the trophies into the hands of the LCLC players", jokingly concluded one of the tournament organisers, Ieva Satkute.
Lithuania’s Ambassador to the UK, Dr Oskaras Jusys congratulated all tournament participants and guests and expressed his joy that LCLC continues to raise funds to support its charitable initiatives. Lithuanian tennis ace Ričardas Berankis, who was due to attend the LCLC tournament, but had to cancel due to a trip to the US, donated his racquet to charitable raffle. After the lucky dip the prize found its new owner – Giedrius Daujotas.
Celebrations continued at a traditional English pub nearby with BBQ, drinks and plenty laughter. Organisers were very happy to learn that guests from Lithuania, LCLC members and their families truly enjoyed the event and are already looking forward to the next one next year!
